Based in Tel Aviv, he will expand Moelis & Company’s presence in Israel, and strengthen the Firm’s technology M&A and private and public company financing capabilities.

Mr. Zivotofsky has more than 20 years of experience raising capital for and investing in Israeli companies. Most recently he served as Managing Director at Ibex Investors, where he led the funds’ growth stage venture investments in Israel. Prior to that, he was a Founding Partner at OurCrowd, a Jerusalem-based investment platform with over $1bn under management built for accredited investors and institutions to invest in startups and venture funds. Prior to that he was Head of Technology investment banking at Lehman Brothers in Israel, and has held roles as a portfolio manager and top-ranked Israeli technology research analyst at Goldman Sachs. He began his career at Morgan Stanley in New York.

Mr. Kern brings with him extensive experience in dealmaking across the media and telecommunications sectors, having served as the President of Kern Consulting, LLC since 1997. He has also been a Senior Advisor to Guggenheim Partners. A lawyer by training, he spent many years as the principal outside legal counsel to TCI and Liberty Media, later bringing his media sector and deal knowledge to On Command Corporation where he served as Chairman and CEO, and to TCI as Vice Chairman and a member of the board of directors. He has also worked at Nomura Securities International, and broadband and mobile consultant Enki Strategic Advisors. He is currently CEO and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Colorado Symphony Association.

Moelis & Company (NYSE: MC), a leading global independent investment bank, today announced the appointments of Steven Halperin and Angus Whelchel as Managing Directors to expand and enhance the Firm’s capital markets capabilities. Based in the New York office, Mr. Halperin joins the Firm on July 13 and Mr. Whelchel on August 4.

The additions of Mr. Halperin as Head of Equity Public Markets and Mr. Whelchel as Head of Private Capital Markets enhance the Firm’s ability to provide the full suite of capital solutions to clients.  Together they will broaden and deepen the Firm’s public and private market origination and distribution capabilities and lead an expanded structured capital markets effort, further strengthening the existing platform.  Mr. Halperin and Mr. Whelchel will join Moelis & Company’s globally connected network and work closely with the Firm’s sector, M&A and restructuring bankers to structure and execute innovative financing solutions and provide product agnostic advice to clients around the globe.

Mr. Halperin began his career at Lehman Brothers having worked in various capital markets roles.

Mr. Whelchel joins from Barclays, having been based in New York and London, most recently as Global Head of Private Capital Markets. He has more than 20 years of experience in the industry having worked at GE Capital and Lehman Brothers. He has helped clients raise over $200 billion of private capital globally across all industries and brings an expansive network of deep relationships with investors in the private capital markets.

Dr. Gallone joins from Morgan Stanley, where he served as Managing Director and Co-Head of EMEA Healthcare Banking since 2016. He has more than 15 years of investment banking experience, having advised on over $200 billion worth of M&A transactions during that time. Dr. Gallone started his investment banking career at Credit Suisse First Boston, and is a physician by training. He received his medical degree from the University of Lausanne, and an M.B.A. from Georgetown University.

The Firm was honored with the following awards:

  • Restructuring Deal of the Year in the Americas for advising iHeart Media on its $16.2bn restructuring;
  • Restructuring Deal of the Year in Europe for its role as exclusive financial advisor to Steinhoff International N.V. relating to the restructuring of €11.9bn of liabilities;

Mr. Renton has more than 30 years of experience advising clients in the United States and internationally, with his primary focus in energy particularly in the upstream and oilfield services sectors.  He has held a number of senior investment banking roles, most recently as Managing Director of the Energy Group at Lazard Frères & Co. and previously Vice Chairman of the Global Energy Group at Citigroup Global Markets.  Also at Citigroup, Mr. Renton was Co-Head of the Public Sector Group where he oversaw strategic advisory, capital markets and transaction services engagements with government and public sector entities globally.
